Team Monster energy confermato – Hill e Fairclough alla Specy

Un comunicato stampa rilasciato dalla Specialized conferma la presenza di Hill e Fairclough nel team Monster Energy/Specialized per la stagione dh 2009. Presentata anche la bici del team, per la verità già vista a Las Vegas e sui campi gara di Adelaide durante l’Australian Cup (vedi news >> link), gara sfortunata per Hill a causa di una rottura del cambio. Le parole di Scott Sharples, marketing manager Specialized, non sembrerebbero lasciare nessun dubbio sull’utilizzo della Demo 8 in coppa del mondo: “Per la nostra bici di punta, la Demo 8, rientrare in coppa con un campione del mondo è il massimo“. Tuttavia voci insistenti nelle settimane precedenti riferivano della possibilità di una bici differente per il team. Rob Warner, commentatore delle dirette dalla World Cup per Freecaster, certamente informatissimo sui rumors del circuito, aveva dichiarato, all’interno di un intervista a Distilled Mag, che Hill e Fairclough non avrebbero corso con la Demo 8 (vedi link qui >> link). Alcuni “rumori in rete” sembrerebbero ammorbidire ma non “negare” del tutto questa possibilità. Su Bike Mag si legge: “Hill and Fairclough will both be aboard Specialized Demo Eights, with custom geometry per each rider’s preference, for the 2009 season” (vedi qui >> link). Ma che le geometrie di una bike di coppa siano ottimizzate sulle esigenze dei racers, soprattutto se si tratta di Hill e Fairclough, è una cosa più che ovvia. Tuttavia su NSMB è possibile leggere qunto segue: “A brief talk with Monster team mechanic JC confirms that the Demo is better than most people think for racing, but it’s only a matter of time before this collaboration will lead to a new platform in the future. More about the launch later (it’s late) but I’ll leave you with the official release for now” (vedi qui >> link). Il meccanico del team, Jacy Schumilak, ammetterebbe così che la Demo 8 sia stata spesso considerata dai racers come una bici non troppo “race oriented”, seppure non sempre a ragione. La cosa però più interessante è che Jacy conferma che “è solo una questione di tempo”, ma questa collaborazione porterà alla vita una nuova piattaforma ed una nuova Specialized da discesa. Se sia prudenza nei confronti dei media o reale convinzione non è certo dato saperlo. Non è possibile prevedere se il “futuro” di cui parla Jacy è da considerarsi vicino o lontano. L’unica cosa certa è che al momento la notizia ufficiale è che Hill e Fairclough correranno su Demo 8. Il campione australiano ha pure dichiarato: “I wanted to ride for Specialized because we share the same goal and that’s to win races..” ed ha poi aggiunto “they are really capable when it comes to building and testing new products and striving to be the best“.

Break the Cycle official Trailer

Vi avevamo già preannunciato di questo video di imminente uscita (vedi qui >> link). Si tratta di un film interamente incentrato sulla scena dh irlandese. In questi giorni è stato presentato il trailer ufficiale. Il regista Andy Yoong sembrerebbe aver sfornato un prodotto di qualità davvero elevata. Per avere conferma del suo talento cinematografico basta dare un’occhiata ai suoi video pubblicati su Vimeo. Break the Cycle è già un video imperdibile.

Steve Smith on Evil Bikes

Steve Smith, giovane talento del downhill internazionale e vincitore dell’ultimo U.S. Open (vedi qui >> news 1 – news 2), passa da Cove a Evil Bikes. Smith, insieme a Thomas Vanderham, formerà il team di riders del neonato Brand. Abbiamo già parlato a lungo di Evil Bikes e del suo nuovo gioiellino, la Revolt (vedi qui >> news 1 – news 2 – news 3). A parte queste poche immagini che girano sul Web non esistono ancora altre foto della Revolt. La bici adotterà un nuovo sistema realizzato da Dave Weagle e denominato “Delta System”. Sotto il sedere di Smith, ai massimi livelli della scena dh mondiale, la Revolt farà parlare parecchio di sè.

Tracy Moseley lascia Kona

Dopo nove anni di felice unione Tracy Moseley e Kona si separano. Ancora nulla di certo sul futuro della campionessa. Di seguito il comunicato stampa ufficiale:

In 2000, the Kona Bicycle family welcomed her with open arms. And that was that – a new family member was born. From the onset, Factory Team rider Tracy Moseley has been returning the hugs and spreading the Kona love worldwide for nine years. From her highlights of reaching her first DH World Cup podium in 2001 to winning the DH World Cup in 2002 in front of her home crowd in Fort William, UK, over the nine years Moseley also notched a European DH title to her credit, as well as 10 World Cup victories and five National DH titles.

Now, that nine year long embrace has loosened up a bit, with Moseley deciding to move on in her career. But, she will always hold a place in the heart of the Kona family.

“Always smiling and always the consummate professional, Tracy will be sadly missed by the Kona crew,” says Kona co-founder Jake Heilbron. “We wish her the best of luck in her future with a new team and a new ride. And we look forward to seeing her at the races and on top of podiums all over the world.”

Moseley, who in her nine years with Kona had reached the podium at more than 112 races, admits that leaving Kona isn’t easy.

“Kona is one big family and wherever I have been in the world I have always had an amazing welcome from the Kona distributors everywhere,” says Moseley. “I am very grateful for the commitment, support and opportunities Kona has given me over the last nine years.”

Although Moseley and her talent are stepping away from Kona, her racing future will certainly involve cracking Champagne atop podiums, descending rowdy lines and showing off her smile.

“Riding and racing for Kona over the last nine years has been an incredible journey,” she says. “At the outset I had no idea that I would make a long career out of the sport and I had no idea Kona and mountain bike racing would give me the opportunity to travel the world and meet so many great people.”
